SIR - In response to M Wainwright's letter (April 14), I will enlighten him to the benefits that the University of Worcester and the students that inevitably come with the university bring to the city.

Firstly, the university attracts young, educated and vibrant people to Worcester as well as creating a number of jobs.

Secondly, the vast number of students at the university contribute a great deal to the local economy by consuming the goods and services the city offers.

This increased demand helps to sustain the local businesses, which in turn provide a number of people in Worcester with jobs.

Thirdly, many of the students that graduate will stay in Worcester providing the city with a skilled workforce. Due to the higher wages their skills will allow them to demand, they will plough substantial amounts of money back into the city once more by the goods and services they consume.
