SIR - Instead of Worcester council's negative responses to allocating part of the Kays site for a train halt station citing lack of funds and the excuse it could jeopardise the entire project, I believe they could justify their jobs by supporting the idea.
A fact-finding trip to Nottingham to find out where they got their funds from to build their extensive tram service and acres of free parking at every tram station should open their eyes to what can be done.
Over the years I have tried to sow the seed for a complete underground railway system based on the London Metro for Worcester with the old halt stations being used as the above ground part.
The Victorians managed to find the funds to build the railways, canals, mines, roads and sewers.
While setting aside land on Kays' site for a halt station it would be beneficial to set aside land on the old railway yards at Shrub Hill for another halt station. Then build others to Droitwich, Malvern, Hereford, Norton and so on. That would solve a lot of traffic problems and pollution. The three main rail highways in and out of Worcester would take their share of commuters. The high cost of parking alone would encourage people to use the train. Powick roundabout would be deserted.
