SIR - In response to your article, Cabbies putting girls in danger! (April 12), could I please add.
Young girls are not the only ones.
Writing as a middle aged man, may I inform Mohammed Ali, the city council and readers, we can also suffer the same reactionary fate from a large amount of taxi drivers. Occasionally, when leaving a club on Worcester's High Street in the early hours of Sunday, alone and perfectly sober, I attempt to hire a cab.
My question. Would you drive me to Ombersley please, and how much will you charge?
The response is usually no or (pause) yes, between £35 and £48 (£48 being the highest quote to date).
Forget the city council licence. In my opinion this is a licence to print money.
The only advice I can offer to those poor' girls and all other vulnerable people visiting Worcester centre at night is - pre- book a safe and comfortable bed and breakfast or hotel (it's cheaper!) and return home by bus the following morning, at one tenth of the price. I do!
NIGEL WARWICK, Worcester.
