Sir - How refreshing it was to read Councillor Mike Layland's letter, (Monday, April 7), concerning affordable' housing. He always presents his views clearly, without resorting to politician-speak' mumbo-jumbo and gets straight to the heart of the matter.
For years now, the Government has been pushing the case for affordable, or social, housing. Too late, MPs have been trying to treat the symptom of the problem, but, as every good doctor knows, this is all very well as long as the cause of the malady is eradicated also.
In 20 to 30 years' time, unless something is done to treat the cause, and the population of our tiny island continues to increase, even at its present rate, there will be no need to consider further social housing, because there will be space for it no longer and the green belt will be a thing of the past. Who would want to live here then, anyway?
