SIR - I was saddened to read John Phillpott's latest outpourings (February 16) in that it contained his usual prejudices and no facts or evidence.
I don't expect him to read city council briefing papers, but I'd like to think he reads the Worcester News.
If he did, he would have seen the excellent article by one of the new reporters, Jack Blanchard, who wrote about the findings of the city council's affordable housing consultant. The article correctly reports the findings of a study into why there is an affordable housing shortage in Worcester.
Far from it being students and immigrants, as John Phillpott wrongly claims, the main causes of the housing shortages in the city are from people living longer and often alone, and from the migration of well-off families from the south of England.
John, my so-called "aggressive stance" is born of frustration at listening to warm words of Conservative councillors and MPs about the need for more affordable housing, only to then see their opposition to any new proposals to build new homes.
I will continue to stand up for local families in need of a home, and yes, John, challenge those - be they the BNP or feature writers - who peddle lies about the serious issue of housing.
MIKE FOSTER MP, Worcester.
