SIR - With reference to the editorial comment on the Archbishop of Canterbury (Worcester News, February 11). I would not argue about the man's urbanity and intellectual gifts, and even the liberty of expressing himself.

Still, I maintain - and I am not alone - that a Christian leader and pastor is bound to offer nothing but the Lord Jesus Christ and the word of God to all and sundry, Muslims included, if he wants to be credible. From such a leader, nothing should come but firm, clear and authoritative statements in matter of faith, morals, ethics and discipline.

We have, instead, someone who bows and kneels to sanctifiers of homosexuality, to every wind of doctrine, to Roman pontiffs and - now - to Sharia Law. In fact, the voices for the disestablishment of our state church are getting louder and louder!

JOHN E IEBOLE Worcester.
