SIR - I was elected to the city council and served six years. I was already passionate about social housing, being brought-up on an estate and ex-tenant myself.
Worcester City Council, under both Labour and Conservative control, did a great job of managing council stock.
There were many beacon policies that were brought in. I disagree with Gary Kibblewhite that community housing has improved. The loss of rights has built up over many years.
There has been a loss of services such as being able to pay council tax at the neighbourhood offices, not to mention their pending closure.
The demise of the resident wardens at sheltered accommodation is unacceptable.
The problem of under- occupancy is not easily solved.
Remember, a lot of these tenants had tenancies passed down and have perfect to right to remain.
What we need is more council homes to be built, but under this Government we have little chance.
MIKE FRANCIS, Worcester.
