SIR - Peter Scott's constructive and thoughtful letter (about the positive effect of EU membership on the cleanliness of our rivers and beaches) set me wondering why we don't use our EU membership to press both the EU and our government to start making Britain less like the Third World nation it has become? Why do we put up with parts of Worcestershire being some of the poorest in the EU?
The rest of Europe has been spending our money on sprucing themselves up for many years now, so when is it our turn to have decent motorways and public transport and the sort of general prosperity that is the norm everywhere else in the EU but here?
JIM EVANS, Worcester.
