SIR - Regarding the letter from Councillor David Candler (February 11), I would suggest the only positive actions to come out of the EU are the takeover of our elected Government.

The difference between the European Union and British Government is freedom of choice. At present, we can elect our representatives to Westminster and change them every few years should we decide they no longer truly represent our views. This, as Coun Candler would do well to remember, also applies to local government. He should also be aware that under future EU legislation, local, parish, district and county council's will disappear and be replaced by regional assemblies run by good Europeans who are appointed, not elected, by the people.
