SIR - In their letter of January 31, Spetchley Road is a pain for parking', R and M Carpenter suggest the county council and other nearby organisations do more to encourage alternative modes of transport to the car. As the highways authority, the county council is expected to set an example when it comes to educating organisations on leaving the car at home when it comes to commuting.

It was our bid to the Department for Transport that led to Worcester being named a sustainable travel town and the choose how you move' scheme continues to change attitudes throughout the city. We have had a travel plan for County Hall in place for many years and it is reviewed on a regular basis, most recently February 5.

This looks at car share schemes, the pool car arrangements through Whizz Go and better facilities for those looking to walk or cycle.

I am more than aware of the issues of parking on Spetchley Road and we will continue to look at ways of addressing this situation, along with others where a reduction in car use might help.
