SIR - Jim Evans' letter We need control of our own nation' (February 5) expresses dissatisfaction with today's parliamentary democracy in this country.

I would be interested to know when he thinks Parliament was more accountable to the electorate? Presumably after the granting of universal suffrage, it being less representative before that date, 1928.

So, some time between 1928 and 2008 we have had a government which has been more accountable to the electorate than today?

I'm not defending the actions of recent administrations, but how is this "Orange Revolution" to be structured? It will surely need a leader for it to centre on. What values will this leader represent?

The following, if I read Mr Evans' letter correctly: exit from the EU; ceasing military intervention abroad; stopping immigration. From the letters and, especially e-mails I've read in the local press, Mr Evans will have many supporters.

But what if there are much more extreme opinions seeking representation in this Orange Revolution? Could such a destabilising movement fracture the generally benign consensus existing in this country?

There is currently a good deal of thinly disguised racist talk circulating and I wonder how far Mr Evans would go in wishing those opinions to be the spearhead of an "Orange Revolution".
