SIR - Those advocating Starbucks as a suitable business for our beautiful Guildhall are surely not serious. Can they not see the inappropriateness of an American coffee shop company operating in a Queen Anne building of considerable distinction?

I suggest they start again. Whatever is chosen should certainly be serving tea rather than coffee in that magnificent room.

I have a suggestion. Afternoon tea is back in fashion apparently. How about holding grand tea dances in the Guildhall?

Music provided by Elgar School of Music students, catering by outside caterers such as Worcester County Cricket Club, and customers attracted in conjunction with town businesses, in particular Worcester Porcelain, who seem to know how to bring coach loads of people to Worcester.

The Ritz has three sittings for tea each day at a truly astonishing price, and I see that Birmingham Town Hall is hosting two mammoth tea dances on February 14.

The Swan/Huntingdon management must have the skills; they have the booking facilities.

Having a company like Starbucks will not bring one extra visitor to the city. Put on some style instead. Strictly Tea Dancing - you know it makes sense.

NEIL HUNTER, Worcester.
