SIR - I have some good news for Brian Hunt, Worcestershire Pensioners Action Group (WPAG).
Rooftop Housing Group has been negotiating with the county council to continue lunch clubs during week days at Ferry View, Evesham, and Cherry Orchard, Pershore, using meals supplied by the WRVS to the whole community. These should start soon and continue at least until June. Meals for residents at Yates Court, our extra care scheme in Evesham, have not been affected by the county cuts.
I applaud WPAG's campaign - it would be great news if the funding could continue beyond June. I should also point out that our notices to staff did not "jump the gun" as Mr Hunt said. These were actually issued at the last possible moment that would meet statutory requirements before the January deadline originally set by the county council.
It's possible that staff of other associations affected by the cuts may have shorter notice periods and could delay taking action, but we did not have this choice.
IAN HUGHES, Chief executive, Rooftop Housing Group Limited
