SIR - I was astonished by the letter from Richard Udall, who signs himself off as Worcestershire countycouncillor, presumably to give some gravitas to his personal views.
He says that: "Loss of power and sovereignty to Brussels is rubbish", but then goes on to say that even if it is true, he prefers it. He credits the European Union with securing peace and understanding, when in reality peace was secured after strong defence of our sovereignty during two wars, something he wants us to forget.
If he really thinks that the people of this country want to be ruled by Europe then let's have a referendum on it.
Personally I can't see what's wrong with standing up for your own country. A pity more of our leaders and representatives don't do the same.
ANDREW JOHNSON, Worcester
