SIR - Most Worcester people would probably agree that our Guildhall must continue to be accessible by the public but that it needs to generate income to reduce the cost to the taxpayers.
The magnificent assembly room on the first floor ought to offer high quality restaurant meals at both evenings and lunchtimes, including Sundays.
It could also be part of a wedding venue package.
Properly advertised, this would earn a good income.
As a member of the councillors' Guildhall working party which examined ways of generating income, I put forward this suggestion.
Almost all councillors, from all political parties, rejected the idea of using the ground floor as a restaurant or coffee shop so that craft fairs and charity events could continue there, but the cabinet chose to ignore this.
I do hope that Worcester people who care about the Guildhall will make their views known so that the cabinet hears them clearly before making unwise decisions.
PAUL DENHAM, Councillor, Rainbow Hill Ward.
