SIR - Thanks to UKIP parliamentarian Lord Stoddart, who has been fighting the corner for all those who are worried about the phasing out of the old traditional light bulbs and their replacement by the toxic CFL bulbs with their possible health risks, the Government has now confirmed that they have been giving the wrong message. In answer to Lord Stoddart questions in the Houses of Parliament, the minister involved has accepted the Government has gone a step too far by announcing the end of traditional light bulbs.
The manufacture of traditional bulbs can continue and people will be able to continue to purchase them, but the Government does intend to make it its policy to support the introduction of the mercury-based light bulbs which , of course, are defined as potentially hazardous to health by the Government. Fortunately, for once, the consumer has the chance to choose, which is what we all want. One has to ask why our MPs had failed to act on our behalf and left it to a member of the House of Lords to resolve the position?
