SIR - Mike Grundy's excellent article about St Wulstan (January 18) surely lends credibility to the theory that it was his fidelity to his oath of allegiance to William of Normandy that led to Worcester being known as the Faithful City. The origins of the title are indeed "obscured in the mists of antiquity" but there is adequate evidence that it existed for centuries prior to the Civil War to which it is attributed.
JOHN HINTON, Worcester.
