SIR - I would like to express my disappointment at the letter sent by Councillor Francis Lankester (January 21).
It really misrepresents the good work done by the city council in two cross- party working groups, set up to investigate the best ways of retaining the Guildhall in good order for the continued use of the people of Worcester.
The second working party, chaired by Conservative mayor Stephen Inman, was an excellent example of friendly, effective cross- party working for the good of the city.
A consultant had established several strategies for the Guildhall's development, all of which were debated and accepted by the group, except the issue of a café on the ground floor which was vociferously opposed by a large majority of working group members, including Marc Bayliss who insisted that the ground floor of the Guildhall be kept as clear as possible for citizens' use, particularly their Saturday events.
I feel that Francis Lankester's letter devalues the spirit, actions and decisions of the mayor's working party and I am surprised at its content, bearing in mind that he was a member of neither group.
COUNCILLOR PAM CLAYTON, Worcester.
