SIR - I write regarding George Cowley's letter (January 15) suggesting I don't support the law.

Well, George, I do support the law 100 per cent.

What I was objecting to is their increase in their earnings.

The British officer gets a better salary than most other countries.

This includes America and Australia, and all other European countries. We have more police than 10 years ago - their overtime earnings have gone up enormously.

By the way, George, I have objected to MPs getting an increase in their salary, and suggested they have the same increase as pensioners get.

Even today, I see the council workers are pushing for six per cent and I do know some people working for the council don't have a decent wage.

But the people at the top take far more than their worth.

JOHN SHEARON, Worcester.
