SIR - With an amount of pleasure I read in your publication (December 29) that John Hewlett was given an MBE in the honours list for his commitment to Royal British Legion.
A belated honour but a very deserved one.
I'm still puzzled as to why it took so long to recognise and honour the prodigious efforts of this fine and noble man.
His work to ensure the memory of the fallen in the great wars would never fade or dim is truly the stuff of legend!
So, today John Hewlett I, as a proud Irishman, salute you for your unstinting loyalty and dedication to a cause so very dear to your heart - you are truly a good man.
A man Worcester can be extremely proud of.
For myself, all I can say is in 51 years of living among the people of this fine city I can very proudly say: "Yes, I know John Hewlett, surely one of its finest son's.
SEAMUS KELLY, Worcester.
