SIR - I am delighted that 92-year-old John Hewlett's contribution to the Royal British Legion locally has at last been recognised in the New Year's Honours list. Mr Hewlett's dedication is, however, both long-standing and well-known, so what a pity it took the powers that be so long to make him an MBE. People like Mr Hewlett seek no reward or recognition for their contribution, but the honour is something that the whole family can enjoy and be proud of.
What better way for the Hewletts to start the new year.
DILIP SARKAR, Worcester.
