SIR - I refer to the controversy concerning a possible war memorial in Gheluvelt Park.
I recollect as a small child in the halcyon days immediately following the First World War, being taken to the park and shown a tank.
Looking back it was really a very appropriate memorial. The old tank was still there when I was called up during the Second World War in October, 1940.
Alas, when I returned to Worcester on demobilisation six years later, the First World War armoured fighting vehicle had gone! I was disappointed. Perhaps the council could ask the MOD to let us have another tank of more recent vintage to lie in Gheluvelt Park - what better memorial could there be?
D E MARGRETT, Worcester.
