SIR - From November 1, following an EU directive, boat owners will no longer be able to buy red diesel which costs 30 to 35p a litre but will be forced to buy road grade undyed white diesel. But because it will no longer be dyed it will look no different from standard diesel.
Customs and Excise are insisting on levying a duty of just over 54p a litre on top of the cost of the diesel.
The impact on boat owners and towns which have a significant interest in boating tourism.
