SIR - Sadly unless they' want it, petitions do not matter as I found out when I mounted a petition against having a Sainsbury's supermarket in St John's centre.
I spent countless hours collecting the largest petition ever in the city of over 4,000 names. I met many people who were concerned about the amount of traffic that would return to central St John's after a bypass had been specially built to take it away. The petition seemed totally ignored!
I dearly hope that the 2,000 people who supported the Worcester News in its bid to retain the Ambulance call centre at Bransford are successful in their efforts. Only time will tell.
Petitions are important but if you really are frustrated and annoyed by this move, a personal letter to the appropriate authority is worth fifty signatures so get those pens busy!
JOE WALTER, St Johns, Worcester.
