SIR - I am in full agreement with all the sentiments recently expressed by Dilip Sarkar, regarding the proposed Gheluvelt Memorial to men of the old Worcestershire Regiment (Letters, September 18).
To think that any slab of metal could remind us of our lost men is absolutely ridiculous.
I have not met one person who says it would be a fitting tribute. My wife's father was seriously gassed in opening months of that war, and she is very unhappy about the design.
Why not stick to our way of always remembering our heroes and erect the statue of a soldier in a solemn, thoughtful pose, which we can all look up to and be proud of?
