SIR - I refer to the reports of Jennie Bashforth, the county council's director of adult services, leaving. As an active campaigner for older people my colleagues and I have met with Ms Bashforth on many occasions.
Although we haven't always agreed on the outcome, particularly cuts in funding imposed by the present Government, Ms Bashforth was the ultimate professional.
Councillor John Buckley should show some of his anger towards the Government he unquestionably and loyally follows. For it is this Government that is putting such enormous pressures on all the staff of older people's services with cuts, followed by cuts, followed by more cuts, added to which the reported looming threats from lack of funding to home help.
May we wish Ms Bashforth well in her new venture?
