SIR - Could the railway lines be used to ease the transport problems we have at present, and in the future? The pre-war halts - small stations where trains stopped on request on the main railway line - later used single-carriage diesel trains.
A lot of the hardware is still in position, although the platforms are long gone. Siting new halt stations near to the park-and-ride sites would help by getting buses off the roads and freeing up the bus lanes.

It may even qualify for historical grants on the grounds it is bringing back the past.
The Strategic Rail Authority should be interested in the idea as it would make the proposed Norton parkway a better proposition, because of its city-wide passenger links and car parking facilities.
The only other answer to Worcester's traffic in the future is a complete 25-mile underground railway system based on the London Underground.
