SIR - I am researching into the life of Edward Lashford Cave, a Bromyard solicitor who was also an early motoring pioneer.
A contemporary photograph exists of him driving a horseless carriage' around the town. He and his family are also know to have ridden in a vehicle at an exhibition held at the Crystal Palace in south London in 1896.
Although Cave is a common enough surname, there were evidently other Caves involved in the development of motoring in this country.
Two of them, E A Cave and H J Cave, were listed as Royal Automobile Club members in 1899 and another, a certain Albert E Cave, was known to be a publicist for the Automobile Association some years later.
