SIR - Yet again the EU shows what a kind, considerate organisation it is by slapping import duties on mobility scooters.
About 250,000 people rely on them in the UK and they cost about £2,500 each. They are VAT-free because of their purpose but the EU has decided in its wisdom that the poor and disabled can afford more so the effect of the duty will be to increase prices by about £250 per scooter, since most are imported, primarily from the US.
All our Treasury under Gordon Brown can do is implement the duty.
