SIR - I attended the exhibition about Powick roundabout. Still I am bewildered at the lack of common sense in trying to solve this congestion issue.
To remove congestion you have to create fast exit points; putting traffic lights on the Powick roundabout will not enhance the speed of exit.
The traffic does not ease or disperse until you reach either the M5 or the Whittington roundabout.
By slowing the exit off the Powick roundabout, you will create even longer queues of traffic trying to get on it.
The civil servants who hosted the exhibition pointed to a computer, showing thousands on vehicles entering the roundabout and going about their business.
The display did not show stationary traffic queuing to get over the Carrington bridge, thus creating stationary traffic back to the Lower Wick roundabout or on the Powick road.
If my views are wrong once works have been carried out and the schools have returned, I will apologise.
All the situation needs is yellow boxes on the entry points to the roundabout so that non-queuing traffic can enter and exit the roundabout freely.
As for placing the cycle route on the inside of the roundabout for "safety reasons" - that's insane.
