SIR - Today I received my monthly BT telephone bill, which is paid in advance by Post Office payment card and in is credit.

It came with a covering information leaflet explaining that the less well-off and most financially vulnerable, who, for many reasons, do not have a bank account and the means to pay by direct debit, are now charged an additional £1.50 per month payment processing fee.

There is to be a reduction of £1 per month line rental and £1 per month broadband fees for all customers, plus a further saving of £12 to £24 per year for those who are able to pay by direct debit.

So, I see the less fortunate without bank accounts are subsidising those who can pay by direct debits.

It's a twist in the tale with the poor being robbed to help the rich.
