SIR - Every now and again an issue arises which transcends political divisions and on which people of all parties can unite.

I believe the poorly thought out plans to close Foregate Street post office and move it to the upstairs of WHSmith in the High Street is just such an issue.

In launching its public consultation, the Post Office has specifically stated that the decision on the move itself is not subject to change and not part of the consultation.

This is unacceptable. It claims that the closure is a necessity as Crown post offices are losing so much money. But, living within a few hundred yards of this office, I pass it all the time and see it thronged with people on every occasion - which begs the question of why it cannot be run at a profit?

The franchising plans would have it moved from its purpose built location where it has easy access for all and put on the first floor of an already crowded shop creating access difficulties for anyone with impaired mobility.

I hope that people of all political persuasions will back the campaign to stop it and make it clear that Worcester does not want to see more post office closures.
