SIR – I could not believe my ears when I heard that Notts Constabulary now viewing something as innocuous as wolf whistling as a hate crime.
Besides the obvious fact that those who wolf whistle a pretty girl (or handsome guy) do not do so because they hate them, or because they wish to induce fear or distress in that person, I would really like to know the logic behind such a draconian decision. At this time, I am left to conclude that feminism and political correctness, together with the fear of challenging it, has drowned out the voice of common sense and reason in Nottinghamshire Constabulary. I would also be interested to know why, if any complaints (and I cannot believe there are many) are made, they cannot simply be dealt with under current harassment legislation?
