SIR - I refer to John Shearon's letter saying Malvern taxi drivers should accept competition from those in Worcester, (May 21).
How can somebody from another town say we should accept competition? Do you do the job? If not, how can you comment on something you clearly know nothing about?
In fact, there have been many written complaints to Malvern Hills District Council's licensing officer from the trade and the public about these cabs, about which, yet again, nothing seems to have been done.
Mr Shearon also said: "Surely the passenger knows if they are being driven to Shropshire." Wrong! I know for a fact a lady from Poland arrived at Great Malvern station. She wanted to go to Guarlford and ended up at Morrisons because the driver didn't have a clue where he was going, so she ended up somewhere she didn't want to be.
Also, you think it's okay to be overcharged! What if I overcharged you? You wouldn't like it.
We accept competition, but fair competition.
MARTIN J LAYLAND, Malvern.
