SIR - The people of Pickersleigh Road, Malvern, are right to be worried about harm to their health from a Hutchison 3G mast, should it be put up and operated near their homes.
People do get sick from radiation from that type of transmitter.
But I write to comment on the last part of your piece, where it is stated the firm says: "No other alternative site has been found."
Hutchison do not find the sites themselves.
They use freelance agencies who locate a willing landlord who will accept a mast and base station on their premises.
These agents only get paid if planning permission is obtained for the actual site.
Consequently, once they have found a landlord and obtained his signature they look no further, because they need their expenses paid and examining other sites erodes their earnings.
It is these paid-per-site bounty hunters that local planning officers deal with, not the phone operator.
I am convinced this is the reason why no other alternative sites have been found.
Ask Hutchison 3G UK to identify the alternative sites examined and let it produce the reports.
I will not be surprised if you find there are none!
