SIR - We are writing to you in response to the article published in the food and drink section concerning the Bell at Eckington (Worcester News, May 25).

We purchased the Bell in March 2006, and invested to create a country pub restaurant serving high quality, fresh, home-cooked food, sourced locally whenever and wherever possible.

Our aim is to be known for our consistently friendly and efficient service, excellent fresh food, and relaxed environment. The Bell is not our first experience of running a pub restaurant, we have also run the Plough and Harrow in Drakes Broughton for the last 12 years and continue to do so with great success.

We would be the first to recognise the importance of a well researched and written restaurant review; not only for the reader but also for the operator.

The tone of the article is questionable, possibly rude and the stated telephone number is that of a local Chinese restaurant.

We have no objection to being scrutinised but why did the reporter not state that she was asked "is everything ok with your meal?" at least twice during the evening. If the problem had been brought to our attention we at least would have been given the opportunity to demonstrate our professionalism and been able to rectify it.

We have been completely shocked by the manner the article was written and simply feel that maybe there was another agenda.

Constructive criticism in business is crucial to improve standards. After displaying the article on our bar over the weekend, we have received comment after comment that we are one of the friendliest pub restaurants locally, serving a great standard of fresh food. Can we take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for their support in highlighting the inaccuracies of this article.

May we suggest when reviewing other local pub restaurants that a little more care and attention is taken and your write-ups give the full picture.

Kerry west & Steve Leighfield, The Bell, Eckington.
