SIR - I was intrigued by your story Train strike looms over dirty cabs' (Worcester News, April 30).

The answer might be to bring back the British Rail Standard 9F steam locomotive, generally regarded as the apogee of British steam locomotive design.

Happily, two examples have been preserved.

They may be noisy, dirty and generally unhealthy but - with their open cabs - air conditioning is unlikely to be a problem.

ANTHONY LYONS, Worcester.
