SIR - On behalf of the committee members, I would like to thank Tesco for once again supporting RSPCA week by allowing branches of the society to hold charity collections at stores within their areas.

My thanks also to members of the public, who donated and all of our volunteers who collected on our behalf.

During the seven days we raised £2,305.42 at St Peter's in Worcester, £857.16 at Warndon and a further £1,974.84 at two other stores.

Each branch of the RSPCA, of which there are more than 170, is a self-funding, separately registered charity, raising funds locally to help animals in need or distress and is run by a small group of unpaid volunteers.

Last year we re-homed almost 400 animals. They all needed veterinary treatment and were boarded at the privately owned kennels and cattery that we use.

This money will allow us to continue helping the animals that come into our care and, hopefully, give them the second chance that they deserve for a happy life.

MARGARET WYLDE, RSPCA Mid-Worcestershire and Worcester Branch.
