SIR - I would like to publicly thank the NHS care in the community team who cared for my mother at her home during the last 10 day so of her long fight against cancer.

Despite my own misgivings when my mother said she wanted to die at home, the support that was given to us in enabling us to meet her wishes was tremendous.

Mum's GP, the district nurses, care staff from the Mayfair care agency, twilight nurses and night sitters all provided mum with the tenderest of care and my father and me with much needed emotional support.

When times got tough during the early hours one night, the emergency primary care team at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital were quick in responding and had a doctor with mum within 10 minutes.

Although it was difficult to watch mum fade away over those 10 days, we know we met her wishes in letting her die at home with dignity.

There are no words that can express the depth of our gratitude to the nursing and care staff that made that possible.

On Joy's (my mum's) behalf, I would like to say thank you.

WENDY BOYLE, Worcester
