SIR - I must commend Mike Foster MP on his forthright stance regarding the problems travellers are continually causing in Worcester and the surrounding area.

As he rightly points out, they regularly flout the law by not paying parking charges, causing damage, noise, contamination and rubbish. There have also been instances of intimidation.

Why aren't these people prosecuted in the same manner that law abiding citizens would be dealt with? Many of these travellers have arrived from the Republic of Ireland, where recently there has been a major crackdown on similar illegal and anti-social activity.

If the Republic has the courage and determination to deal effectively with these bullies, why can't the UK do likewise?

N WINTER, Worcester.
