SIR - Like hen's teeth, good news from the EU is non-existent.
But the EU Industry Commissioner Gunther Verheugen quietly announced in a meeting on May 2 that the dual marking of goods in imperial and metric will continue indefinitely.
This "good news" statement was made following intense pressure by Neil Herron of our own English Metric Martyrs and he was greatly helped by the American business lobby, who also complained bitterly.
However, I am suspicious of the word "indefinitely", because this means they can always come back and reverse this decision.
In the meantime, let us be glad that our pints, gallons, miles, feet, inches, pounds, ounces and acres are safe for time being.
Stanley D Parr, Pershore.
