SIR - What nincompoop suggested fining parents if they give a small amount of alcohol to their children at home?

Why not punish the brewery barons and supermarket magnates who put profit before the health of our society?

Remove supermarkets' licence to sell alcohol. Ban the sale of alcohol to anyone under 21 years of age, as in the US. Triple the tax on alcopops.

It will not happen because of the greed of breweries and supermarkets and the fact that they have far more influence at Westminster than our democratic vote.

A comprehensive drastic attack on the availability of teenagers' access to alcohol would lead to drastic reductions in NHS, police, court and prison costs to the tax payer.
