SIR - Having read all the issues regarding the proposed increase in housing in Worcester and the county, I feel that if the proposals go ahead this city will be in constant gridlock.
In 1962, Plymouth enlarged its boundaries to include many ancient towns and villages, after which there were a colossal amount of housing estates built in greenfield as well as brownfield sites.
The consequence since those times is that Plymouth and its surrounding areas are now in gridlock almost 24 hours a day. This is what I have witnessed over the years that I spent on visits to relatives and friends that live there.
So if we do not want this city with its present road system to become like Plymouth and other cities, please do not build houses just for the sake of civil servants, who will not even be living here.
N M DUNKLEY, Worcester.
