SIR - We are all under great pressure by the Government to save carbon emissions through such methods as turing off the standby button on our televisions, computers and the like.
How about the Government putting its own house in order?
Returning up the M5 from Bristol very late the other night, the motorway was unlit until I got to Strensham services and then lit up like daylight from there northwards - even though the road was nearly empty.
Every few yards there was an expensive lamp standard and lamp lit up wasting electricity.
I did ponder how many standby buttons did they equal? I also wondered why, if it was safe to drive on my own vehicle's headlights from Bristol to Strensham, it needed lighting from here onwards?
What a waste of taxpayers' money and added light pollution.
Is it a case of the Government saying to the people do as we say, not do as we do'?
