SIR - The Government has never been prepared to fund properly the so-called choice of having care in one's home rather than having residential or nursing care.
Even if one goes directly to the private sector, knowing that although one's parent's savings are not huge they would be over the level to be eligible for financial help, there are times when the private sector does not have enough capacity. If then one approaches social services to ask to buy homecare at the market rate, you can be refused. Even when there is money, there is there, choice isn't.
