SIR - In 2006 the Department for Work and Pensions departmental report set targets for the disability and carers' service to deal with claims for disability benefits within certain times.
For example, a completely new claim for disability living allowance should be dealt with within 39 working days of receipt of the claim.
From evidence collated by Benefit Information Services, it appears that the service may not be meeting these targets. In some instances there is a four-week backlog of work.
Benefit Information Services needs more evidence to determine if these targets are being met. It would like the help of readers who have recently claimed disability living allowance or attendance allowance, had a claim for either of these allowances looked at again or who have appealed a decision on a claim.
If you can help and can spare five minutes to complete a short survey contact Benefit Information Services on 08456 120 474.
