SIR - I read Dilip Sarkar's comments (If I ruled the World, March 13) and yes, R J Mitchell and J Johnson were brilliant - but what about Alec Henshaw, who recently passed away?
He was the Spitfire test pilot. He flew down from Castle Bromwich to Pitchcroft to give us a display. Afterwards he gave us the victory roll, waggled the wings and was gone. We had to go back to work, which was part of the old jail opposite Worcester Royal Infirmary, to be told we had to produce more wings as at that time we were short of fighter planes. We all got on well together and all worked for the same end - to see the war over as soon as possible.
MRS D SMITH, Worcester.
