SIR - It is unfortunate that a senior newspaperman such as Phillpott uses his column to try to get cheap laughs rather than for serious intent (Seven Days, February 17).
He should know that not only are Worcester's Labour councillors leading the argument for more affordable homes as part of any development but this view appeared to chime with that of his own paper.
Conversely, the Tory cabinet, which runs the city, missed out on a recent opportunity to increase the number of affordable homes available on new-build sites.
It would seem that Mr Phillpott has little interest in assisting the young people of Worcester to stay in the city by providing them with a more realistic chance to buy a house. It is doubly ironic, given his other rantings on Saturday about the slide towards a dormitory town. The surest way to do that is to rely purely on building expensive inner-city apartments rather than realistic and affordable housing for local people.
