Sir - I for the life of me understand what they are saying about not dredging the rivers, Surely if you make a vessel deeper then it is able to take more water before it reaches the top, that’s just common sense.

If a river is 15miles long 25 yards wide and 6 yards from the bottom to the top of the bank them this would equate to 184,757,760,000 cubic inches of water

15 miles = 26,400 yards x 3ft to the yard = 79200 feet x 12inches to the foot giving you a total of 950400 inches

25 yards x 3 feet = 75 feet x 12 inches = 900 inches

6 yards x 3 feet = 216 inches

950400 x 900 x 216 inches = 184,757,760,000 cubic inch of space

Now if you use the same calculation only taking 2 inches of the bottom see the difference

950400 x 900 x 218 inches = 186,468,480,000 cubic inches of space

A difference of 1,710,720 000 cubic inches more

Now convert that back and you get 1,710,720,000 inch divide by 12 inch then divide by 3 feet you get =47,520,000 cubic yards more water before it overflows,

The sludge from the bottom of the river could be used or sold to the farms for fertilise. It would create jobs, bring in revenue, and help the flood victims .

I hope I have my calculations right.
