Sir - In your editorial on 10th March, you claimed that no one is arguing for public spending to be increased. This is simply not true. The Green Party has repeatedly argued against austerity and for investment in jobs and services. In your editorial on 27th June 2013, you wrote that ‘Labour and Conservatives offer us nothing but years and years and years of austerity – the very thing that is at the heart of this economic mess’. Indeed, and I believe we ought to refrain from repeating what the government wants us to believe –that ‘we as a country spent too much in the past’. The crisis was caused by greed in the private sector, not overspending in the public sector. The Prime Minister recently said that ‘money is no object’. Therefore, let us repeat instead: we need investment not cuts.
